Goethe-Institut exam prep, built in.
Structured practice in the Goethe-Institut CEFR format — Lesen, Hören and Schreiben — across A1, A2 and B1 levels. A1 is free.

Passing a Goethe-Institut exam opens doors — to residency, citizenship, university admission and employment in German-speaking countries. GermanVault's exam preparation section is structured around the exact format of the Goethe-Institut CEFR exams, covering the three core tested skills: Lesen (reading comprehension), Hören (listening comprehension), and Schreiben (written expression).
Goethe-Institut format — Lesen, Hören, Schreiben
The Goethe-Institut exams test three skills. Lesen tests reading comprehension — understanding texts, matching information, identifying details. Hören tests listening comprehension — understanding spoken German in realistic contexts. Schreiben tests written expression — producing short texts, messages, or responses in correct German. GermanVault's exam section is organised around these three skills at each level, so you practice in exactly the format you'll be tested on.
A1 Beginner — free
The A1 level covers simple everyday language — greetings, basic personal information, simple instructions. A1 Lesen and Hören tasks are available free in GermanVault. This lets you experience the exam format and assess your starting level without any commitment.
A2 and B1 — Premium
A2 covers basic situations and topics — travel, shopping, describing surroundings. B1 covers a wider range of topics met in everyday life, work and school — it is the level required for German citizenship naturalisation. Both A2 and B1 exam prep, including all three skills, are unlocked with Premium.
Why structured exam practice matters
Many learners study German vocabulary and grammar diligently but then struggle in exams because the exam format is unfamiliar. Tasks have specific structures, time constraints, and question types that differ from normal study. Practising in the correct format — even with similar (not identical) content — significantly improves exam performance by reducing format-related anxiety and building familiarity with how tasks are presented.
Complementing your full study plan
GermanVault's exam prep works best alongside its other features: verb conjugations for the grammar you'll need to write correctly, vocabulary for reading and listening comprehension, scenarios for situational language, and the AI quiz for active recall. Use the full app for a complete preparation rather than exam tasks alone.
