GermanVault's achievement system is designed around exactly those behaviours: badges reward you for showing up daily, for quizzing yourself repeatedly, and for reaching mastery milestones. They're not decorative — they mark real learning milestones.
Streak badges — Erster Funke to Ewige Flamme
The streak badge series rewards daily consistency. Erster Funke (First Spark) unlocks at a 3-day streak. Wochenflamme (Week Flame) unlocks at 7 days. Durchzieher unlocks at 14 days. Dauerbrenner unlocks at 30 days. Unaufhaltsam unlocks at 100 days. Ewige Flamme (Eternal Flame) unlocks at 365 days — a full year of daily practice. These badges are deliberately hard to earn, because the streaks they represent are genuinely transformative for language acquisition.
Quiz badges — from debut to legend
Quiz-Debüt unlocks on your first quiz. Quiz-Kenner (Quiz Expert) unlocks at 10 quizzes. Quiz-Routinier unlocks at 25. Quiz-Meister and Quiz-Legende mark deeper quiz engagement. The final badge in this series, Volltreffer (Bull's Eye), rewards quiz accuracy rather than volume — recognition that practice quality matters as much as practice quantity.

The achievements screen shows all 27 badges in a visual gallery organised by category — Streaks and Quiz visible, with more categories below. Earned badges are shown in full colour with a counter (e.g. "8 / 25"). Unearned badges are shown in greyscale with the unlock criterion visible, so you always know exactly what you're working toward.

When you unlock a badge, GermanVault shows a full-screen celebration modal. This moment of recognition — small but meaningful — creates a positive association with the behaviour that earned it, reinforcing the habit.

Earning a badge means you did something worth celebrating, and the progress counter toward the next badge gives you a concrete short-term goal to work toward.
